My name is Jonathan Broomfield

and I would like to personally welcome you to my world with cheese.

I am a trained cheese specialist with over 17 years’ experience in selling cheese. In 2013 my life path took an unexpected turn when I had the pleasure of meeting Genevieve Cain (then editor of Allrecipes UK) and with her help the Cheesy1 blog was born. It has now received over 32,200 visitors and has been viewed in over one hundred countries, as well as being featured in the ‘top 50 cheese blogs of 2017,18,19, 20, 21 & 22’. A big part of the Cheesy1 blog is about building relationships with cheesemakers and purveyors by telling their stories and understanding their methods for making and/or selling cheese. My posts about Quickes, Cropwell Bishop, Lyburn and the Ludlow Food Centre have all been popular articles.

In 2014 I attended a Discover the Origins masterclass in Bournemouth where I had the pleasure of meeting Juliet Harbutt. After talking for some time that evening, she invited me to judge at the British Cheese Awards; eight years later and I am professionally judging at the British, Global, International & World Cheese Awards.

In 2016 I contacted Bruce Macdonald - the former Chairman of the International Cheese Awards and member of the Guildes Des Fromagers – who at the time was setting up the Guild of Cheese Graders. Bruce has now retired the Guild bit as a former member of the Guild, it was a fantastic way for Bruce to impart his vast knowledge of cheese, judging and grading which he has amassed over the past thirty years, and I enjoyed being a part of it.

Since 2016 I have been providing cheese talks around the United Kingdom including Rotary Clubs, WI groups and village festivals. With over thirty-five talks now provided by myself the feedback I have received has been overwhelmingly positive and I am delighted with their success. With all this in mind, in 2018 I launched this website to provide a look at my world with cheese and who exactly is Jonathan Broomfield.

In 2020 of course the pandemic was prevalent, but I used my knowledge & expertise to support the opening of a cheese counter located in our family shop Harveys Of Hythe (SO45 6AH). It was important to help the shop navigate its way out of the pandemic, and I used my expertise to bring a wide selection of cheeses to the counter. With over forty-five now in stock from traditional classics that you love to exciting newcomers, you can always find something different each time you shop with us at Harveys. Please feel free to follow for the latest updates.

In 2021 I was recognised by the International Cheese & Dairy Awards who appointed me as an ambassador for the awards. With a shared passion for the cheese industry this is a fantastic opportunity for me to share this passion to cheese consumers & lovers alike at the show.

In 2022 I have forged a relationship with DS Automobiles UK providing bespoke events in physical locations of their choosing, to online cheese & wine tasting evenings. Whether it is for their customers or for internal colleagues I bring my knowledge & passion to them for a unique event that ties into the gastronomy pillar of their brand.

With 2023 now underway I'm renewing my focus on my identity and have rebranded all assets to Jonathan Broomfield. The blog will remain as the Cheesy1 and although I don't post there regularly it can stay as a tribute to my early work in the cheese industry.

I'm looking forward to what the future will bring for my world with cheese.
